Retail Marketing – an introduction

Last month I was invited to talk to fourth semester students of Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication (SIMC) to cover Retail Marketing as an additional subject. I started with the first session on introduction to retail marketing covering the overall market in India, its challenges and the future trends which are expected to impact all sections of the market.

I have always been an advocate of deeper understanding of the customers rather than just spending large amount of money in bombarding customers with wide spread marketing and advertising campaigns. I believe this clear understanding of the customer will not only deliver higher returns on marketing investments but also create new opportunities to deliver innovative shopping experiences to these customers using digital tools.
